Not heating to the temp that I set

I have had my Nest Thermostat for 15 months.  Last Winter it seemed to work like a champ.

This year I've watched the schedule and the ECO setting take over.  I will admit that I didn't have a full schedule set but didn't think it would take over the way it has.  I set my low temp at 60 and my high temp at 69.  My thermostat let my temp fall to 50 and I had to fight to get it back to ############.  It says that it's heating and will take 2+ hours to get from 60 to my desired temp of 69.  It heats for about a degree.. a solid 61 and then shuts down.

I would like to just set my temp to 69 and have it hold steady there... worry about scheduling later.  I life in Fargo, ND and we got to -26 last night.  I don't have a desire to screw around with this thing.  Is it possible that it's malfunctioning and I need a new unit?  Anyone else have the unit decide it knows what temp I need better than I do?

The Nest Learning Thermostat automatically builds a schedule based on what it sees you do, and looks for ways to save you money by picking times to lower the temps, etc.  If you just want to use it as a basic thermostat and worry about schedule programming yourself, make the following adjustments in the setup menus.

Go to Reset and select Schedule.  This will clear out any scheduling that you or the Nest created.

Turn off Auto Schedule. This will prevent the Nest from adding any schedule events on it's own.

In the section under Home/Away Assist, turn off the option to automatically use Eco Temperatures.

And make sure Eco mode is currently turned off.

Yikes!  -26º !!  Not a time to be worrying about a heating system, that's for sure. Good Luck.

How were you able to get the temp up after it shut down? I have the temp set but the furnace won’t turn on. After a reset it was on a few minutes then turned off again.
