Multiple threads on various forums have shown that customers are perplexed as to why you can’t boost your heating for an hour using the app.
customer services thank people for providing feedback but then nothing …. For years…. Surely this must now be a will fully omitted function from the app as SURELY if they wanted to add this function it would now be available.
I’m confused as to why this wouldn’t be a feature in the first place but to have not added it despite feedback requesting it just seems bizarre.
for this reason, I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The hive does this easily

"Hey google I'm cold" and it will raise the temp.. or "Hey google I'm warm" and it will lower it, this is exactly what you are looking for I believe.

I can't see any help there, all I can see is purchase another Google item!
Can you explain GarretDS please, how this works with the App, and not using another Google product?
10-27-2021 09:17 AM
Hey Frustratedddd, I did not say buy another product. I said use the google assistant, which can be used on your phone (iPhone or Android), and does not require you to buy another google product.
10-27-2021 10:15 AM
Oh I see, and that works with a NONE Google email account I assume as well?
10-27-2021 10:17 AM
Okay, not sure why you are being so combative here, if the person has no google account (which is free so they could easily sign up for one), then they probably wouldn't have a Google Nest Thermostat. The OP here asked for a boost function, I provided a solution to their original ask.
10-27-2021 10:38 AM
Strange reply to a reasonable question! I have a Nest thermostat with a none Google account, and have done for years, ever since the 1st gen thermostats. I purchased a 3rd gen thermostat, and I still do not use a Google account.
Yes I could have a Google account, but I would loose a very usefull applet IFTTT for a start.
The question I asked, does it work with a none Google account as well?
10-27-2021 10:45 AM
Okay I think I understand what you are asking now. You are asking if you need to migrate to the new google account with the nest login to have it integrated into google home, and the answer is no, you do not currently need to do this, but I suspect that will change in the future. For now it will pop up and ask you to migrate, but you do not need to. You will be able to add the nest thermostat into your google home app, which will allow you to control via voice, and give the "Hey Google I'm Cold\Hot" command.

You've provided a workaround, not a solution to the requirement.
11-05-2021 09:25 AM
No, it's not the same. The requirement is to boost the heat for a fixed period of time, i.e with a time OFF, not to manually voice control it.
10-24-2021 02:16 AM
Yes, but look at what the Hive looks like!

Hi Chelleuk,
I've been looking for a way to do this for a while. I've finally figured it out, using only the google home app:
You should now be able to say your phrase and google will turn the heating on, wait an hour, then turn it off again.
I think the time delay function is relatively new, I hadn't seen it before today. Pretty useful!
Hope this helps
11-04-2021 05:09 AM
P.s. you'll have to have added your nest thermostat to your google home app for this to work
11-04-2021 06:29 AM
Why would you not just say "okay Google I'm cold"
11-04-2021 07:44 AM
Does saying this just turn the heating on for an hour? Or does it just change the temperature of the thermostat?
I keep my nest switched off until I want the heating on.
A boost function on a traditional thermostat turns the heating/ water on for an allotted period of time (e.g. 1 hr) outside programmed hours.
Previously I couldn't find a command to achieve this 'boost' function on the Google Nest Thermostat.
11-05-2021 09:30 AM
Because the requirement is for a timed off in the basic app, not using another app as a workaround.

Its a great option to have and something I think would be an easy fix for the boffins a Google

No, the answer doesn't satisfy the requirements. It needs a boost temperature and time period(s) as parameters. Whatever the schedule, you boost to the 'boost temperature' for 1,2, or 3 (number of pushes) hours, and then drop to the scheduled temperature at the end of that time. The given answer, using Google Assistant, allows almost similar, but requires an end temperature, a time period, and doesn't read the scheduled temperature at the end time. It also requires the app.
And it shouldn't be necessary to use Google Assistant; just implement it on the unit. i.e. pretty much like every other thermostat.

No answer as far as I'm concerned just want 1 button to tap and s 1 hour heating boost comes on. Not much to ask in my opinion

I'll just reach out and advise that the Google Nest needs more clarification compared with the user's expectations against a traditional timeswitch.
First, it doesn't switch on/off. It tries to achieve the selected temperature. Its 'off', which respondents refer to, is actually a temperature. It could be lower or higher than scheduled. This is why it can't do a simple boost just by turning on, then off after a time period.
Any solution requires a temperature parameter.
One hour is probably what most people would like, but it could be 2 or 3 hours (like, an evening)
I don't see expect a rapid implementation; in fact I don't expect an implementation given the time that it's been on the market with little change, and I recognise the work required to implement and test a new feature.
Oh, and try to change the corporate 'reaching out' talk. It doesn't work well in many cultures and is reminiscent of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporate-speak described in H2G2.
