POWER OUTAGE-THERMO WON'T COME BACK ON

Power Outage for 24 hours a few days ago- Basement Thermo came back up fine - but LR Thermo won't come on. Display had a G (Google logo) so appeared to be "powered" as early as last night,  but now that has disappeared and the display is dark.  What do I do to get this reconnected and working?

Hi KTH,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear that after a power outage your Nest thermostat is stuck on the G logo. But don't worry; I can help. In this case, you can try some steps on your thermostat to make it come back on.

First, you can check the thermostat wires.

  1. Remove the thermostat display from the base.
  2. Check that all of the wires on the thermostat are fully inserted.
  3. The connector button should stay in a pressed-down state on any connectors that have wires in them. If not, remove the wire, and check the tip.
  4. If the tip has corrosion, is bent, or is less than 1/3 inch of copper exposed, straighten and/or re-strip the end of the wire.
  5. Press the connector button and re-insert the wire. Push the wire in as far as it goes. Make sure the button stays in a pressed-down state. This indicates that the customer properly seats the wire.

After that, try to reset the thermostat display.

  1. Make sure the thermostat display properly connects to its base.
  2. Remove the display from the base.
  3. Remind the customer that the wires should be tucked neatly into the wall, so they don't block the thermostat display when the customer reattaches it.
  4. Press the display back onto the base until the customer feels or hears a click.

And the last step will be restart the Nest thermostat.

  1. Press and hold the thermostat ring until the display turns off.
  2. Release the thermostat ring.
  3. Press the thermostat ring once to begin the startup process again.

Please let me know how this works. Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny
