Possible defective product?

My house only has heating 2 wires, W/W1 and RH. I installed it last night and for some reason, even though it's summer and nest is set at 50 degrees, nest turned on my heaters. I tried turning off the heat and for like an hour or so it worked but the heat came back on. I then turned on heat and set it back to 50 degrees, which worked throughout the night but then the heat came back on this morning.

Any one know what's wrong? defective product or maybe it's a compatibility issue?

I've turned off auto-schedule, deleted all schedules, turned off true radiant.

Under energy history, it shows no usage.

Hey Oogalooga,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated.

I appreciate that you have taken action on this matter by performing the troubleshooting steps above, so let's explore more options.

  • Make sure your thermostat is up to date. Go to settings, choose software, and then verify if the thermostat is using the last version, 6.2-27.
  • Go to Settings > Nest Sense > Auto Schedule. Select No and then tap Done.
  • Go to Settings > Eco. Then, under Heat to and Cool to, select one and turn the dial until you see Off. Finally, tap Done.
  • Go to Settings > Home Away Assist. Select Stop Using.
  • Finally, go to settings > reset > schedule > reset and turn the ring to reset.

Let me know how it goes in writing this post.

Regards,

Daniel

Hello Oogalooga,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I’m sorry to know your thermostat is not following the target temperature that you want to use. So don’t worry; it’s a pleasure to assist you.

To effectively troubleshoot, could you please answer these questions?

  • What model of thermostat are you using? If you don't know the model, check out this article for reference: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • Do you have an older gas furnace built into the wall or floor? Also, you can use this tool to determine if your Nest thermostat is compatible with your system: compatibility checker.

Please keep me posted so I can provide further assistance.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

I have the nest learning thermostat, 3rd gen.  No old gas furnace, my block never and still does not have a gas line.

Did all of that and my heat still turns on even though the heat is off in nest. Does it matter that I received the Google nest from my electricity provider(PSEG)?

Hi there!

While the source of your Nest thermostat issue is still unclear, the fact that you've received it from your electricity provider (PSEG) doesn't inherently cause the problem. However, it's worth considering these points.

Let's try our last resort:

First, let's give it a fresh start. Performing a factory reset can often resolve unexpected behavior. Think of it like rebooting your computer – it clears everything and starts anew. I know this might sound complicated, but I'll provide you with the necessary steps to do it.
Second, let's set it up again. This will give you a chance to customize your settings and make sure everything is working as it should. We can turn off all features that would be changing the temperature.

Regards,

Brandon.

I did a factory reset and turned everything off. Heat set at 50 and still turned on even though room temp is 80.

Hi, @Oogalooga,

Thank you for your response. It's incredibly frustrating to take such drastic steps as a factory reset and still have your heat running full blast when it's so hot. I'm happy to provide you with further assistance.

Since your heater is still running even when you turn off the thermostat, please fill out this form. You'll need to follow advanced troubleshooting steps for your thermostat, which are best completed over the phone for security purposes.

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,
