I can’t quite get my head around how changing the preheating schedule for my thermostat will impact things.
If I switch it off (or say, to 1 hour) my nest acts almost like a traditional thermostat and just turns on when I tell it? Is that right? But does that mean the house won’t actually be the temperature I’ve asked for when it turns on? If so, how long will the heating stay on?
On a broader level, do people find pre heating has a significant impact on monthly bills?
Thanks!

My nest has been saying that we have our heat pump running 16 hours a day but it is rarely on. That preheating is all i can think of

Note that under the Heat Pump Balance setting, the default is 5 hours for some unbelievable reason. Mine was coming on at 3:30 am to pre-heat for a 8:30 am temperature change, even though it should be able to "learn" that it only takes 15 minutes to heat my condo to the desired temperature. But it constantly says that it will take 1.5 hours. A striking dumb streak in smart appliance.
