Purchased NEST thermostat on amazon in UAE, it is the EU version

I bought 2 Nest thermostats from amazon in UAE (Model: T3029EX).

After opening one, I see includes heat link, will it work with Trane Air conditioner, I searched online and only see it can control heat and hot water. Can I still use it to control the AC?

Hi there @wonderer and thanks for reaching out. For starters, can you confirm if you're located in the UAE? Indeed the Google Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen is designed to control the heating and hot water together with the Heat Link which is the receiver that gets attached to the boiler. Please check out this article as it will help you understand the differences between the model that controls the AC and the one for heating and hot water only: https://goo.gle/2ZhQJYh

Thank you for the information. The US and EU models are designed to work differently and have different features as you noticed. We don't recommend you try and replace the base of the EU model with the US one. It would be best to try and get ahold of a US unit, display and base.

Before you do, make sure to have a look at the US compatibility checker page, here is the link. To get some ideas if it would work with your system. The US model is designed to work with most 24 V heating and cooling systems. It won't work with high voltage systems or proprietary systems for example.

Thanks, and appreciate your reply.

The way it sounds, is a challenge to get one of these units to work in this part of the world, as there is very little information regarding the how-tos and general support.

again, thanks for info.

Hi, Thanks for the reply,

I checked out the page in the link. It is confirming that I have two useless nest packages now on my hand, since it is past the time of returning to Amazon 😞

what I was wondering here was if the units could be adapted to cooling by replacing the heatlink with a Nest Base which is used in the units for US versions.

Again, thanks for your reply,
