QR code on nest thermostat to obtain installation does not work

Brand new nest Thermostat. The collateral says to scan the QR code on the back of the unit to get installation instructions. However, when doing that nothing having to do with the nest appears some other type of part for something that is not google appears.  M:G4CVZ

The QR code does not give you install instructions.

Are you scanning the QR code from within the Google Home app (for the Nest Thermostat) or the Google Nest app (for the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E) after first selecting the add a device option and scanning the QR code during the thermostat install process?
