Replace Nest Internal Battery?

MWiner
Community Member

3rdGen has served faithfully for years. Batt ran out and I waited too long before pulling display to recharge.  Now, it won't recharge on (tested) active USB cable.  (No blinking light on display indicating charging in progess.)

Could be the internal (rechargeable) battery is exhausted? Can I replace the internal battery?

Update: after 30 minutes on USB cable, an indicator light on the display HAS started blinking!  Maybe it was so discharged it required some charge time just to display?

The internal batteries in Nest thermostats are not replaceable.

They internal battery can die after a while when a C wire is not connected. Some HVAC system just don't like how the Nest thermostats keep the battery charged. If you install a C wire that will usually fix the problem.

Hey folks,

Thanks for responding here, Patrick_Caezza.

MWiner, thanks for posting and for keeping us in the loop of what you've done to have this resolved. Just like what Patrick mentioned above, it is best to have a C wire or a Nest Power Connector set up from your HVAC's control board to your thermostat for a steady power.
