My nest thermostat fits very loosely on the mounting plate. When I removed it, I saw that one of the plastic tabs had broken off. How do I obtain a replacement for the plastic back for my Nest Thermostat? Thanks for your help.

Same thing happened to me. $300 thermostat rendered useless due to a $0.05 part. We need some right to repair laws…

For those with similar issues, when I contacted support via chat, they informed me a back plate replacement is not available. If the thermostat is still under warranty, they will replace the whole display unit to resolve the broken back plate. Good to know, unless of course you are out of warranty.

I’m sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Nest Learning Thermostat display. Let’s sort this out.
A few questions: is the product new, or has it been installed or working for some time? Did you accidentally damage the device or did you remove the cover or disassemble it for any reason?

My nest was three months old, working fine, but not secure on its mount. I thought maybe the plastic tabs were not projecting far enough, but when I fiddled with them, one broke off. After my chat with support, I elected to return it to Costco for an exchange. So my problem is resolved, but it’s unfortunate that the plastic part is not easily replaced.

I filled out your form, but as stated in this thread, I decided to exchange my thermostat where I purchased it since I was told it was not possible to obtain the plastic back plate replacement without returning the whole display unit to google, necessitating a period without a thermostat.
