Replacing a mercury 2 wire thermostat to nest g4cvz

I purchased a nest g4cvz to install and replace my Mercury 2 wire thermostat. The 2 wire operates as a circuit with open= off and closed = On. I installed a transformer that is labeled R and C.

I cannot seem to get the wiring down. Anyone have this issue?

To use the Google Nest Thermostat (2020) with your system you need the Nest Power Connector and an external 24vac transformer.

Wiring would be like this,

I try this every way and cannot get it.

I installed a 24v transformer that has 2 terminals. One labeled R which I have the red wire connected.

Other is labeled C which I have the white wire on

My fireplace has the blue and green wires to control it.

Any experience would be very helpful
