Replacing nest thermostat

Hi. Owing to Wi-Fi connectivity issues (likely chip problem) I’ve received a replacement Nest Learning Thermostat, which also came with new base & Heat Link. Is it actually necessary to replace my existing Heat Link or simply replace the new thermostat on the existing base and pair with the existing one? I’m supposed to return the old device so am going to run into issues if I don’t return the old Heat Link, only returning the thermostat and will warranty problems likely arise also if I go down this path?

ALL UK thermostats with Heat Links are sold as a matched pair. Meaning, the Display and the Heat Link are setup to talk to each other.

You can pair a new thermostat with an old Heat Link, and visa versa by clicking ''Replace Heat Link'' at the relevant setup screen. Very easy to do, and the screen  will show that when you get to it.

Personally I would change all the parts, and send Google back the old stuff, but that means changing the Heat Link, and might need an electrician if you are not happy to change yourself. That means you would still have a matched pair.

Nothing really to fear, fit the display now, and arrange an electrician to come as and when.

You will at least get the heating back on.

To be honest, if you can use a screwdriver, you can change the Heat Link. Take a picture of the connections before you remove the old unit.

Like @Frustratedddd mentioned, you can just replace the display. While setting it up it will not connect initially and will give you the Replace Heat Link option. Press and hold the button on the Heat Link for 30 seconds to put it in paring mode and after use the key from the bottom of the Heat Link to pair them together.

You can also swap all parts but keep in mind that we don't recommend generally working on the Heat Link as it is a high voltage part. But there should be no need to swap any other part except the display.
