I have 2 Nest Thermostats for more than a year. Everything works great. Recently the humidity has gone up and the cooler box starts to accumulate ice/frost on the condenser fins, partially blocking the air flow. This can significantly reduce the cooling efficiency, and worse, waste pumping energy. To fix this, I would manually run fan-only 5 mins every hour to de-ice the cooler box, and then turn the air-conditioning back on.
This is a common issue in high humidity areas. The heat pump efficiency can be reduced by up to 80% if the cooler box is not de-iced frequently. I am wondering if a de-icing feature can be incorporated into the fan schedule. It would be great if we can run fan-only mode to de-ice a few minutes (say 5 mins) per hour. This would greatly save energy consumption and help reducing global warming.
Thank you for offering this forum for feedback.
