Resetting 3rd Gen Thermsotat without losing Equipment setup

We're moving home in a couple of weeks time.  The new owners have never had a Nest Themrostat before so I want them to have a painless experience turning on their heating and hot water when they arrive.

Ideally i'd just like to remove myself as the owner of the Nest Thermostat hoping that the new owner could connect the nest to their WiFi etc.  No messing around with configuring the Equipment that the Thermostat controls.

Everything I've read basically says when moving home, I should remove the Nest Thermostat from my 'Home' and then do a factory reset.

Does this remove all the Equipment settings? If so, is their a better way of transferring the Thermostat to the new owners?

Factory reset is the best way as that removes ALL settings back to new.

You can delete the thermostat from you account in the phone App also, the display should then show in the settings of the display:  Nest App - None. Then in Settings Network - Disconnect.

The new owner can set their wifi settings, and request code to pair their account.

Give that a go see if that helps, but Factory reset is the best.

@Frustratedddd , your suggestion to remove the device from the phone app followed by resetting the Wi-Fi on the thermostat was exactly what I was after.

So now I'm leaving the new owner of our house with a working system. The equipment, (which is an OpenTherm sytem gas boiler for heating and hot water in my house) is already setup for them to just use.  I wanted the experience for the new owner to be akin to the old days when you had a programmer and thermostat on the wall and little prior knowledge was needed to get the house up to temperature.  Once they've unpacked and got the Wi-Fi up and running they can then connect the thermostat to the Wi-Fi and download the Nest app. But at least they can be warm 🔥 when they do it.
