Save more energy - Provide consumers a better schedule to burn gas and heat water

Please allow users to set the times when they need to heat their own water, Not as it is now, where hot water can only be scheduled for a minimum of 30 minutes, 1 hour or more.  This is a waste of natural resources, burning fossil fuels to continually maintain a storage container of hot water for at min of 30 mins, 1, 2 hours when it isn't needed is wasteful.  All tanks loose heat, this dissipates into the house (and worse in summer cases can require more AC use).

Allow users to reduce the time a hot water storage container is continually kept Hot.  e.g. Typical gas hot water system can heat a typical tank in 10 - 20 mins so why must the gas boiler be set to keep it hot for 30 mins an hour or more. Please fix this.  As a someone who works in software, I understand software needs to be useable and flexible, so please enable better flexibility in the software to match real consumers needs for hot water.  Allow users to fine tune their schedule, allow hot water starts in 10 min increments and run for any number 10 min increments.   You will help users maintain hot water when they need it, and help save the environment.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the mention. This has bug bear of mine for some time. I thought maybe it is just me. It is the second time I created a thread about it but eventually they are just archived. Strange for a few reasons that Nest are not keen to take notice and implement this. Engery saving as well as customer friendly. Even my old low profile branded 'Cosy' system had this feature. Fingers crossed for a change in approach to listening to customers.

Hi @Scotts-Nest,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you would like to set times for heating your water. I'm happy to assist you.

Given that the Boost options for Hot water schedules range from 30 minutes to 2 hours in 30-minute increments, I recommend manually turning the heating on or off. You can learn more in the article Domestic hot water control.

I understand how useful this could be, considering your needs and those of all Nest users. We're always looking for ways to improve, and we appreciate your feedback.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Anders
