My Nest is only turning on heat, whether it is set to heat or cool. I had an HVAC guy out, who says that with a Rheem heat pump system like mine, the thermostat should energize the reversing valve on the orange wire. He found that the thermostat was energizing the heat on both heat and AC settings.
I'm out of my depth here, but are there any special settings I need to be aware of using a Nest for a Rheem heat pump with emergency heat strips, and AC?
We've been fighting with this all afternoon. We tried calling Nest tech support but never got a tech after more than an hour on hold.
Thanks in advance.

Post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring here

Don't have it anymore. Foolishly both deleted the photo I had taken and threw out the old thermostat.

No worries, Post a picture of the terminal block on the control board in the furnace/air handler.
You can also post the furnace/air handler manufacturer and model number.

Is this what you mean?

Hi there,
Chiming in — thanks for the photo you shared asked by Patrick_Caezza. We can see the make and model of your furnace there. The HVAC control board is where the thermostat wires connect to your heating and cooling system. In most cases, it can be found at your furnace or air handler. You can easily find it by removing the front panels of your furnace. Or you can find it by tracing where your thermostat wires connect to your equipment.
Thanks for your help @Patrick_Caezza.
Best,
Jenelyn
