Since the Google outage yesterday, my 3rd generation Nest thermostat shows a 90+ degree indoor temp

During the global Google outage yesterday (June 12th, 2025), my 3rd generation Nest thermostat started showing an indoor temperature of 99 degrees. Though, my home was freezing because the AC would not shut off. As a workaround, I created automations in my Google Home app to turn on and turn off my AC certain times throughout the day. Today, my indoor temp is still showing as 90 degrees this morning. Did anyone's thermostat experience this issue as part of the outage yesterday? Were you able to fix it?

Hi @Simplifymylife,

Thanks for contacting this community! I understand that your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) is displaying an incorrect indoor temperature and I appreciate your effort in troubleshooting this issue despite the automations you have already set up in the Google Home app. I'm here to help you!

To share the most accurate troubleshooting steps with you, I'd first like to ask you some questions:

  • What is the brand/model of your HVAC system?

  • Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If yes, do they show the same issue?

  • Any recent power outages or power issues?

  • Do you see a power error code on your thermostat?

  • Could you go to your thermostat's settings and provide me with the signal strength? You'll find it under Settings > Technical Info > Network.

  • If you have a room thermometer, please take a photo of it next to the Nest Learning Thermostat and send it to me.

In the meantime, I'd like to share some troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart the thermostat. On the thermostat’s display, go to Settings > Reset > Restart. The thermostat takes a few moments to restart and boot back up.

  • Turn on Sunblock. On the thermostat display, go to Settings > Nest Sense > Sunblock > Select Yes to make sure Sunblock is on.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo - I did try to reset, but that didn't work. And, eventually my thermostat was showing an indoor temperature of 107 degrees. As of yesterday, the indoor temperature finally came down to the 70s, which is correct. I will continue to monitor it to see if the indoor temperature reading is correct. If I continue to have problems, I will submit a claim because it is still under warranty.

I've had the thermostat for almost a year now, and have not had any issues until now. I do believe it had something to do with the Google outage on June 12th because that is when I received an alert on my phone that the indoor temperature had risen 17 degrees in just 2 hours, which is highly abnormal. I was hoping to see if the Google outage was also affecting other people's Nest thermostats.

Hi @Simplifymylife,

Thanks for the update! It's good to hear your Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen is correctly showing 70°F. I appreciate you keeping an eye on it in case that error pops up again.

And thanks for the heads-up about the Google outage on June 12th. While that shouldn't impact Nest Thermostat temperatures, I appreciate you sharing your insights.
