Hi GM79,

Thanks for your interest and for posting.

Google Nest thermostats are designed to work with most 24 V systems, even older systems. They work with all common fuel types including natural gas, oil, and electricity.

Check this guide for more details.

Best,

Mel

Has anyone heard of a 36v system?

Hello GM79,

Thanks for getting back to us. If you go back to the link that Mel has shared above, it says there that while most 24 V heating and cooling systems are compatible with Nest thermostats, there are some systems that aren’t compatible. For us to be sure, could share with us the wiring setup of your existing Nest Thermostat and the make and model of your current HVAC system.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,
Emerson
