Temperature Differences

Hi, Got a Nest 3 for Christmas and about to toss it in the garbage.  Set it for 72 during day starting at 6 am and 68 at night starting at 10p.  There is a sensor on the same floor.  During the day the heat will drop down to 68 degrees, then jump up to 73, then go to 71 for awhile, rarely at 72 degrees.  This goes on every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  Eco is not on. These fluctuations are driving me nuts and the complaints from my husband don't help.  Before I give up on this and get a new thermostat, is there a way to fix this problem?

If you decide to “throw it away”,,just send it to me I will be more than happy to take off your hands.

Usually I run across this type of behavior when there is a heating schedule that is not set up correctly

Hello there,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

I appreciate your input, @CoolingWizard.

@cmzotti, I'm sorry for the experience you had using your Nest Thermostat and Temperature Sensor. I'm sure that is frustrating, but I wanted to see how I could help.

If you say that you installed your sensor on the same floor as your thermostat, could you please tell us how far away they are from each other? This might also affect an unexpected temperature change when you set your sensor by default with the schedule; if it senses a sudden temperature change, it'll communicate with your thermostat so it would activate your system instead of following the thermostat schedule itself.

Please have a look at this article and let me know if you need more help.

Regards,

Mark

Sometimes the nest learning thermostat needs to have enough time to learn the characteristics of your heating and cooling system. Basically the more opportunity it has to see what it takes to maintain your temperature the more it learns on how early it must turn it on or how soon it must turn it off to allow the glide to reach to the temperature.

you say you are using a remote temperature sensor? You need to verify the temperature anticipator’s by getting a reliable thermometer and setting it next to the remote temperature sensor. See what the to report. Do the same thing for the thermostat itself.
