So after reporting issue of unit failing to connect to Wi-Fi told to send back and a replacement will be shipped out, unit duly boxed and shipped yesterday -Just got this telling me they want the heat link back as well. This is a total joke the unit was installed by an electrician, so I am expected to have to do this, this is just crap
“I hope this email finds you well. I apologize for the wrong information I had provided you yesterday about the replacement process. The replacement was made in a full unit because as of this moment we cannot process a replacement for the thermostat display only. You need to return first the faulty thermostat along with all the accessories (Heat link and back plate) so that you can get the replacement device. Thank you and have a great day!

I assume you are in the UK?
How old is the thermostat, and did you buy new?
Did the installer supply and fit if new?

Your one is easy as Boxt are the installer and supplier THEY are responsible for ANY faults for your unit up to at least 5 years! The ironic thing about your one, Boxt are the recommended agent for Nest!!!
UK consumer law covers you for the following...
1. Last for a reasonable length of time
2. Be of reasonable quality
3. Fit for purpose
Your one has failed, Boxt are responsible. Yes they will argue it's out of warrany from them, BUT we are NOT talking about warranty we are talking about 2015 consumer law. This means, anything that is faulty with ANY goods you buy in the UK the retailer are responsible. Look it up. 2015 UK Consumer Law.
Your one is older than 12 months, in this case Boxt can either repair your one, and all good. Having said that, as it's over 12 months, this is where the 2015 CL comes in as they are eligible to say, your unit is 18 months old you have had that much use from it, and you paid say £200. That means, divide £200 by 5 years, and that is £40 a year. That equals for your unit about 60 quid. They can then say, we can replace for a new unit, BUT you will have to pay at least £60. Does that all make sense? OBVIOUSLY it will be a battle, but the law is on YOUR side, make them fully aware otherwise small claims court here we come!
A big company like Boxt knows about 2015 CL, and they will probably throw back in your face YOU will have to prove the unit is faulty. You say fine, BUT when I get a quilified person to prove the unit if faulty [NOT your mate!!] YOU Boxt, will not only be replacing/repairing the unit, BUT also paying for that bill also!
