Thermostat Gen3

Two Nest Gen3 thermostats since December 1st. New system. No issues till today. Today I've been trying to turn the heat up above 65 (to 67). Indoor temp 63-65. The app says it will heat to X temperature in 25 minutes (for example). I check back in 25 minutes while my house has still not heated and it still says it will heat to X temperature in 25 minutes. Is this its learning feature blocking the heating function to preserve energy? Can I avoid this on certain days? Appreciate you all

The next thermostat takes several weeks to learn your system, and how will it performs given the outdoor temperature. This is sort of how the learning system gets to understand how well your system heats your home. Since you just installed the thermostat, it really hasn’t got any good basis to set the amount of time. But as it learns, it will be making adjustments to that time. Now, if your heating system was working and now it’s not working it’s not likely the thermostat. It’s having a problem, but your heating system is having a problem

do you notice if warm air is coming out of the vents in your home when it’s on heating? If there is warm air coming out then it simply needs more time to warm your home. If your system is new, did the installer put in the proper size heating system as part of your replacement? What type of heating system do you have?

I can't be 100% sure the heating was truly working prior to this post (new to the home, had a prior owner) - but I have good reason to believe it was. This is what I found I have:

1) Carrier HVAC. Lenox Model Harmony III control board with 4 zones. Prior thermostat was HoneyWell, and it looks like there are HoneyWell control units on each vent and zones around the HVAC system. Installed Nest Thermostat Gen 3.

2) Connected Red (power) and White (heating) wires directly to each other in one zone. The fan turned on. However, the air did not feel warm. The Lenox control board confirmed the fan was on, but the heating indicator was not illuminated.

3) I tried the flip side and attempted to cool the house. I have the same issue where the thermostat says it will cool the house in X time, but it is not flipping on. I know the air conditioner for cooling was definitely working prior to these recent days.

I am going to attempt to re-install the HoneyWell Thermostat
