Thermostat blinking red will not let me charge off the base

My thermostat has had a red blinking light.  It will not turn on and periodically it gives me a message that I have low battery and my date and time needs to be reset.  When I try to do that, it just goes black.   Last week I wasn't able to  connect to WIFI.  I’ve tired to charge it off the base but it tells me to put it on the base.  When I do so it looks like it will start up but then just goes to a red blinking light.  It has been blinking for 24 hours and now.  I have no heat.  Help!!

Hi sgalnh,

Sorry for the delayed response but thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community.

A few questions — what type of Nest thermostat is this? How did you charge the thermostat display? If it is via a USB cable, how many minutes or hours have you charged it?

A blinking red light at the top of your thermostat’s display means that the battery charge is very low but it’s being charged. Wait until the battery is charged before you use it to control your heating or cooling. This may depend on how low the battery is. Sometimes, charging can take several minutes or up to an hour. It is a learning thermostat.  I did charge with the USB for over an hour and reconnected. Fortunately we were able to get heat but we are still unable to connect to the Wi-Fi. When we first got this thermostat it was connected to the Wi-Fi.

Hey sgalnh,

Thanks for trying that out. I'm glad to hear that at least you're able to have your heating working. Let's check on the Wi-Fi connection.

Are you seeing an offline message on your Nest app? If yes, could you check if your phone has the latest version of the app? Also, what's the battery level of your thermostat now? To check, bring up the Quick View menu >Settings  > Technical Info > Power. Look for the number labeled Battery. You might also need to go through the suggested steps here: https://bit.ly/3ozo50N

Yes my phone does have the latest app. The battery level does say low once again after it had a full charge when I sent this to you.

Hi sgalnh,

I'm afraid that if your thermostat is dropping battery levels and it’s below 3.6V, there might be a power issue that’s causing your thermostat to disconnect. If you've already gone through all of the troubleshooting steps here but to no avail, please contact a local Pro. The problem may be caused by an issue with your system.

Hey there,

Checking back in —how's everything now? Have you had the chance to have your system checked by a local pro or an HVAC technician?
