Thermostat compatibility

Getting new heat pump installed and not sure if nest thermostat can support it. Heat pump is XR16 from Trane, with TEM4 variable speed blower. Took what I think is the right wiring diagram from XL624 thermostat manual... The Trane thermostat they want to include in install. Heard on some forums that nest won't support variable speed blower, but I'd like to stay with nest not a threat to new Trane operation (or warranty).

Thanks!

Hi Aero_25,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring? Also, you could try our compatibility checker to see if your current system is compatible with the Nest Thermostat.

Thanks,
Mel

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best,

Dan

The compatibility checker generically suggested it should work, but other online forums suggested the nest would only operate the variable speed blower at 1-3 discrete settings.

For me, issue OBE because larger variable speed blower couldn't fit in attic access, so smaller single speed option was installed.  Made wiring more straightforward.

Thanks all!
