Thermostat e can't be added to nest app. What's up?

Both of my nest thermostat e were connected to my nest app.  Nest app crapped out and I had to reinstall.  Now they won't connect.  I get td000, td006, td007, td008, td009 errors randomly each time I try.  I've read all of the help files, all of which say to basically reset the thermostat.  I have.  I've restarted my phone  the network, everything I can think of.  Nothing works.  The help files are worthless. Help!!

Hey dcrutherford,

When you say you have tried resetting the Nest thermostat, do you mean that you've power cycled it, or have you also tried a full factory reset on the device? If you have done the factory reset and it's still failing to set up, please let me know and we can look at other steps.

Thanks,
Jeff

Interesting, simple, but not mentioned approach to a solution.  The nest app failed on my phone and I had to reinstall everything (mentioned above).  Before that, I connected the two thermostats with the Nest App on my android phone.  When I reinstalled, I got the errors over and over and over.  The solution was to give it a try with my Android tablet.  And it worked with no errors.  So, there's something that could have been done on my phone that would have fixed it.  I did everything in the solution suggestions from restarting the App, to restarting my phone, to moving far enough away that I was on my 2.4 band on my router, to resetting the thermostats to factory intall.  Nothing worked.  And on the Android, it worked like a charm.  Go figure.  I'd sure love to know what might have been wrong on my phone before this gets closed out.

I'm happy to see you got things working and thanks for sharing the workaround, dcrutherford.

One thing you can check is to see if your permissions on your mobile phone were different than on the tablet. It's possible that some permissions were not turned on in the app and it was blocking some functionality.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hey dcrutherford,

Hopefully everything is still working well. I just wanted to check back in to see if you needed anything more on this or to see if we were ok to mark this as resolved. If there's more you need, just let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi there,

I'm just checking in to make sure that you've seen our response. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, as I'll be locking this thread in 24 hours.

Best,

Jenelyn

You can close it.  Unfortunately, there was nothing suggested or in the help files that gave me information to solve this. Bi did it on my own by just trying different random things.  The help files were simplistic and didn't address the problem, and the posts just referred to the help files.  I've been a Google guy for years and years.  This experience has been a disappointing break from my past positive experience.

Hello folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the help here, Jake and Jenelyn.

@dcrutherford, I'm sorry you have to experience this, and we hope you can have a better time. For your benefit, I'd like to request that you give it another shot.

Going over these steps might help:

  1. On your actual thermostats, go to Settings > Reset > Account Connection > Reset to confirm.
  2. Reconnect them to your Wi-Fi network manually from the Network settings.
  3. Open the Nest app and create a new home structure.
    1. Tap the drop-down location in the top left-hand corner and select the add button, then continue the prompt.
  4. Proceed by adding your thermostats to the newly created home structure.

Please let me know if that works.

Regards,

Mark

Mark,

Not sure if you posted this before I posted my reply that I solved it.  I did it just by adding it using another device.  I've learned through this process that Google has changed so much to make it easier for the non-tech person that they have blocked out a deeper kind of access to fix things when they go wrong.  So, every single suggestion in this thread has been creating some kind of work-around to whatever goes wrong because the ability to step in closer and fix the problem is taken away.  There are so many examples of this beyond this problem.  A long time ago, I asked how to to remove item from my device list once they are gone.  The answer was that they go away after a certain period of time.  I changed over my network about a month ago.  Before then, I had my network in place for over two years.  Not a single defunct item every left my list of devices.  But - google has taken away the ability to step in closer so I can do that myself.  This problem was just another example.  You can close this.  I don't want more emails in my box alerting me that the thread will close soon.  It just reminds me of this frustration.

I'm a google person.  But if they keep trying to make things easier, only to make them more challenging when problems come up, then create help files that don't answer ANY real problems, I might drift away.  That would be disappointing.

Hey all,

I wanted to check in, and let you know that I will be locking the thread in 24 hours.

I had to restart my entire network, and it's been a nightmare.  I'm at the point of doing the final step... Connecting my nest thermostat e.  I continue to get error td009.  I have done everything suggested by the help files.  Restarted  factory reset, restarted my phone, etc.  Same error every time.  Because of the network problem, I was not able to remove anything before starting over.  In the devices list on home, both thermostats are in the list.  But I cannot add them to nest.  What's up?  PLEASE don't point me to the error help file.  I've done that countless times

@dcrutherford

Is this a problem on a system that was working correctly prior or is this a new Set up?

Which Nest thermostat do you have?

Do you have a picture of the original thermostat wiring if this is a new install?

How do you currently have the Nest wired?

I switched isp.  Prior to that, everything had been working for over 3 years.  I'm just trying to reconnect it after I had to start everything from scratch.

Hello everyone,

I've duplicated your thread in the main one here. You’ll receive all updates on this issue on the main thread, and we recommend updating and checking this thread when needed.
