For about a year my Nest (First Gen) thermostat has occasionally switched to manual mode and put the heating on. This is now happening more often, whereby it is waking me at night as its too hot.
I am also concerned that it is doing this when I am not in the house and using up my expensive heating oil. I have searched online and followed guides to disable all automated settings in nest sense etc and reset the device, but it continues to switch to manual mode randomly. It does not appear that the heat link disconnects, that has been green throughout (although I may not have witnessed it during the day).
I wouldn't mind if it switched to manual mode and set the temp to 10c, but it is at 20c. If I cannot resolve this I will have to purchase another thermostat, and without knowing the issue with the Nest, I am unlikely to purchase another.
Can you please advise to a possible cause so I can resolve this?
Many thanks
Chris

I have the same issue. I have turned the stat to 9 degrees but the boiler is still on. It’s 26 in here now and I have opened all doors and windows. Not good

Sussed it! The center button on the link has been pressed to bring the boiler on manually and constant. Press the button and hold. After 30 seconds release and the led is orange once it connects to the stat it turns green then when calling for heat flashes on and off

I am not sure that is the issue, I have reset it as you suggest, only time will tell. Next time it does it I will see what the link is showing. Normally I wake up sweating and look at the app on my phone and switch off manual mode and it then goes back to the schedule.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! I'm so sorry to hear about this situation. If the issue persists, may I have a picture with the schedule and also with the history?

Hi, it again came on early this morning (before the schedule) and when I checked it, it had moved into Manual mode. I have copied my schedule and history today, see attached.

Thank you for the screenshots. Please tap on one of the days where you noticed this behaviour in the history, or more, to get the expanded detailed history. Each activation for a different temperature will show up with a dot in the history for that day. Tap on the dot if you see it at night/morning and take a screenshot of the description you see.
Also on your thermostat setting section in the Nest app, go to the Nest sense section and take a screenshot of the settings you have there currently.

Unfortunately they do not appear in the history, I am waiting for it to happen again so I can definitely check. I have reset the thermostat.
I have also moved my home WIFI channels, simply to rule that out, as the Nest connects to the Heatlink using 'Thread' which has a similar frequency to 2.5Ghz wifi, and I think this issue might coincide with BT sending me new wifi discs which I have installed. I will wait for it to happen again and then post some further images.
Thanks for getting back to me.

Hi there, just checking in! How is it going with the thermostat?

Hi, well since I have changed my 5Ghz wifi to another channel, it has not dropped out......maybe coincidence, but maybe not. Happy for this to be closed and if it occurs again I will open another. Thanks.

No worries. If anything comes up make sure to reach back out. It's good to hear that things seem to be on track now.
