Thermostat heating outside scheduled times

Justfarrelly
Community Member

Nest learning thermostat on system boiler is heating hot water constantly at random times. It is scheduled currently at 6am and 4pm but recently is on all evening long, which is hugely wasteful.

Learning is turned off, home/away assist is turned off.

We’re paired with the Google home app and thinking it might be a glitch between the two as we used to have learning on?

I’ve reset factory settings but it is still not working properly and still heating as I write.

I’m out of ideas, any help would be appreciated.

To add, the app says it is off and the unit itself says it is off, except it isn’t and there is a drop within an orange circle on the screen. I can’t find any way of turning it off or preventing it from happening.

Hi Justfarrelly,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the heating of your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this. To isolate the issue, could you check the Nest Energy History on the Nest App and check the reason why it's changing the target temperature automatically? You can click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Hey Justfarrelly,

I wanted to check in and see if you managed to see Edward's post. Please let me know if you have any questions from here. I would be happy to assist, and make sure you are good to go.

Best regards,
Jake

Hi thank you for following up.

The problem relates to hot water heating and there is no history option for it in the nest app and it doesn’t appear at all in the Google home app.

At this point it is a lottery whether I will have any hot water (despite scheduled times) or if it will be on all evening with no need for it.

Amy further assistance you could provide would be most welcome.

Hi Justfarrelly,

It's me again. I wanted to check back in to see if you have other questions and concerns. Feel free to let me know if you do.

Thanks,

Edward

Is this a joke? No it’s still not working and a generic article on hot water heating isn’t helpful. I’ve given up on it. Moving house soon so to hell with it. Will NOT be using Nest ever again and will NOT be recommending Nest to anyone.

Hi Justfarrelly,

Thanks for the response. I'd love to know more about what's happening and i have a few questions:

  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?
  • What is the power readings of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.
  • Where are you located?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
