Thermostat is working but the furnace keeps wanting to turn on but it doesn't need to

Could we have possible hooked it up wrong?  There was one wire that didn't get hooked up.

Yes, the issue could be due to incorrect wiring or the unconnected wire. Double-check the thermostat wiring diagram to ensure all wires are correctly connected.
