Thermostat runs pump periodically when Temperature is below freezing.

I have an issue with pipes freezing when it is very cold outside.  I have added insulation which has helped the issue, but the best solution I found is to periodically run the circulation pump.  Is there a way that the thermostat can run the pump for x number of seconds ever x minutes when the temperature outside is below x degrees.   I would need my pump to run for about 45 seconds every 20 minutes when the temperature is below 32 degrees F for this particular zone.  The other zones I would have run less frequently if at all.

The temp in my house drops between 57 and 60 when no one is home.  This has saved a lot of energy, so I would like to see if there was a way to keep the savings and prevent the freezing issue.

I feel like this would help many people drop the temps in their houses as it would help prevent pipes from freezing.

Hi @MattN330!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry that your Nest thermostat runs a pump periodically when the temperature is below freezing, but no need to worry; help is here. We appreciate all of your previous troubleshooting efforts.I need to know a few things about your thermostat in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • What Nest thermostat model do you have? For your reference, you can check out this article on how to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC equipment?
  • Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,
Jeremy.

I don’t think you understood the question. He wants to have best turn on the pumps to keep the pipes from freezing. Can nest do that?  I remember seeing a setting for that many years ago when I had the first generation
