Hello,

My thermostat ia set to 70 and the temperature is 64, but the furnace isnt running. The screen shows orange and says "heat Stage 2". This is happening every day. I took off all settings for home/away and scheduled changes.

Thank you

I have the same problem, there are multiple reporting of the same issue. Why no response from Nest support???

This must be a know issue. So many people reported but no response from Nest. I’ve had this issue for months. Only workaround is to restart the entire furnace. Not good

Margaret, I have a similar issue:  I likely have a single stage gas heater brut my nest learning thermostat will “jump” to stage 2 heating when the thermostat is cranked up, and it blows cool air and turns on and off repeatedly.  My solution is to dial the thermostat back to current temp and wait till it turns gray.  Then go up only 2-3 degrees from current temp, making sure it doesn’t say “heat stage 2”.  Then it turns on and we get great warm air.  I then keep adjusting 2-3 degrees up from current temp.  Not elegant but it works.

But that is not a solution. I already paid for a repairman to come check out the furnace because of this and the furnace is fine. Nest should have a solution!

I spoke to Nest support 3 weeks ago. After about an hour on the phone and lot of testing, Nest support person mentioned the white base section is malfunctioning. I found it hard to believe since i dont think there is much electronics in it. Anyways I relied on technical support and ordered a new Nest Thermostat, I didnt want to just change the base for $50. I installed new $2############rd gen Nest Thermostat and after 2 weeks I ran into the same issue where Nest is unable to get furnace going. Says its heating set to 72 while room temp was still 66.. says Stage 2 :-(... need to uninstall and return the new one, i guess nothing has changed. I will contact support again and keep everyone posted.

I was on the phone last night for an hour and a half with technical support. Went through all of kinds of tests and in the end simply turning off the thermostat by pressing the pad for 10 seconds until it rebooted took care of the problem. No more heat issues.

I did try this and now thermostat was able to start the furnace. I will keep you posted if the issue comes up again. Its sporadic.. typically once every 2 weeks is when nest fails to fire up the furnace.

After 2 weeks, issue resurfaced. Now i have to restart the furnace every couple of days. Frustrating

I have had to restart 4 times now and now back to square one. Need to turn off/on furnace to get everything to work. I have to do this once a week. Did your problem go away with the one restart?

Not 100 percent. Every now and then I'll get an email stating there was a "cooling of the house". But it has been better. There has to be a better solution!

I think the nest is costing me more money than without the nest

My furnace is doing the same thing. It is set at 70 and the temp is 65 or less. It shows the furnace is running but it is not.

Hi Klink00

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?
  • What is the power reading of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

I just got a replacement nest  and it is doing the same thing. It will move down to a lower temp the nest shows it's red as if heating and I have to move the thermostat down then back up to turn the heat on
