Thermostat will not find/connect to wifi and won't charge

Hi.

My thermostat is almost 1 year old and won't hold power/power up.  I can charge it up using a seperate usb but it still won't connect. It won't find ANY local network despite typing in exact specifics and password. The circle just keeps rotating round.

Went throughout trouble shooting and Wi-Fi will not connect and battery will not stay charged.

Could you please advise?

Hi emmproc,

Thanks for posting in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat won't hold power and can't find any local network, even when you charge it with a USB cable. I'd be happy to help!

Since the thermostat isn't able to connect to the network, the battery may be the cause of this inconvenience. And you may not be able to connect even if you type the name of the network. To continue investigating, I'd like to ask the following:

  • What is the model of your Nest thermostat? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify your thermostat model.
  • When did the inconvenience first occur?
  • Is this a new installation?
  • Did you receive any error messages on the thermostat display or the app?
  • How long did you charge the thermostat with the USB cable?
  • When you charged the thermostat with a dedicated USB cable, did you get any light to blink?

In the meantime, I'd suggest the following steps:

  • Carefully remove the thermostat's display and check for bent connector pins.
  • Verify that the thermostat wires are securely connected and all buttons are pressed down.
  • In case the thermostat is able to turn on and if you have the Nest Learning thermostat, check the power readings by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power and provide me with the VOC, VIN, and IIN values.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
