Hello, I'm using two 2nd generation nest thermostats with a newly installed 2 stage air conditioner, with a zone board and two zones w dampers.
I've read that the thermostat will determine which stage (1 or 2) to run in based on the time to temperature
My question is...is nest aware of the zoning? For example... the amount of time it will take to cool a room when only that one room damper is open will be less than if both dampers are open. Is nest aware of this and therefore takes this into account as it learns, or does it just build a total average of the data (one damper and two dampers) to guesstimate time to temperature?
If nest isn't aware of the zoning, is there a way to disable time to temperature so it can make the stage 1 and 2 decisions simply by degrees.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi there alubenow!
Thanks for reaching out to our community.
Sadly, Nest thermostats currently don't support zone awareness. This means the thermostat won't consider individual zone dampers when determining stage 1 or 2 based on time to temperature.
Nest thermostats learn to use heating stages based on how long it takes to reach the desired temperature. Since we can't directly adjust this time-to-temperature setting, we also can't choose a specific value for when the heating stages kick in.
However, you can place a nest temperature sensor in the other zone. That way the Nest Thermostat will get a better understanding of the individual zone temperatures.
You also could consider getting another Nest thermostat as an alternative. Since that will provide you complete zone awareness, and accurate control for each one.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions.
Kindly,
Angel.
