Using Temperature Sensors to heat all spaces to a preset temp

I've installed temperature sensors in order to deal with what I suspect is a common issue, inconsistent heating/cooling throughout a two storey open concept space.

They're set up ... I can see them reporting in the Nest app. ok, that was easy.

Next, I'm trying to figure out how to get Nest to do what I want ... again I expect this is common and should be the default. I've set the thermostat to 20c, and I want heating whenever the thermostat or any of the sensors reports below that. I know EcoBee and others support this obvious configuration. can't see anything in the support material that confirms that's the default behaviour.

What I do see is something different. It appears that the Nest considers itself the only relevant sensor unless I do one of two things (1) set another of the sensors as the primary, (2) set a schedule which specifies which device will be primary at various times during the day.

am I missing something obvious?

Hi @fheathyr,

Thanks for posting! I'm happy to help you with your Nest Sensor concerns.

To help us diagnose the issue further, I have a couple of questions:

  • How far are the sensors from the Nest Thermostat?
  • How many sensors do you have?
  • Are you receiving any error code?

I also recommend performing a connection test on your Nest Sensor using the Nest app to isolate the situation:

  1. Select the thermostat that your sensor is connected to on the app home screen.
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Scroll down to the Nest Temperature Sensors list and select the sensor you want to check.
  4. Tap Check connection and follow the instructions to run the test.

You can find more information in this article: Troubleshoot issues with the Nest Temperature Sensor.

Let me know if you have any more questions,

Best regards,

Jenniffer
