Turning heating on remotely

LeFrog
Community Member

Hi, I am using the Nest app to turn on the heating remotely, which it says it has done. BUT when I arrive home nothing has happened, boiler hasn't started. When I then approach the thermostat it then links to the boiler and starts. So absolutely pointless turning it on remotely to heat home before we arrive!!!

Is Home/Away Assist turned on?  if so, that might possibly explain the behavior you're seeing.  If you turn off that feature and just schedule the Nest as a not-smart programmable thermostat, can you override the schedule to start up the heat remotely?

Many thanks for that, I have turned it off and will try it again later. On a seperate issue is it right that I can only schedule heating in half hour blocks. If so, a real retrograde step as my old one allowed 10 minute adjustments!!

Hi Ryan,

Yes, turning off the above smart feature did allow me to control the thermostat remotely. I don't understand why I should need to turn off this 'smart' feature to do that. Was I right about the 30 minute session adjustments above?

Hi LeFrog,

Thanks for the reply and we're sorry for the delay.

The temperature adjustments depend on every HVAC unit. They differ on how long it take for it to reach the set temperature. The Nest Thermostat like the other thermostat is only a remote control that sends a signal to your HVAC to cool and heat. There's no specific time or half-hour blocks that the Nest Thermostat is using.

You could check out this link to know more on how to effectively set your temperature using the Nest Thermostat.

Best regards,

Ryan
