Type E thermostat doesn’t light up after changing battery and charging

HughBurton

I changed my battery on Type E thermostat charged it and nothing lights up when I press the face in. The only response I do get is a yellow light comes on temporarily when I mount it on the wall. The programming  is still there.

I changed the battery because I wasn’t getting any response when I pushed the face in so assumed dead battery.

I’ve gone through all the trouble shooting pages and am stumped.

That behavior (brief yellow light only when mounted) usually points to a power contact issue rather than a dead battery either the battery isn’t seated properly, or the wall base terminals aren’t making consistent contact. Try removing it again, cleaning the contacts, and reseating firmly; also check if any pins on the base are slightly bent. I’ve seen similar troubleshooting cases discussed in H555game  where it turned out to be just alignment/contact pressure rather than the device itself failing.

Pins look OK

Still am stumped here. So if I was to replace the Thermostat with a new, same model would it be plug n play? Or would have to reinstall the system as if were new?

Hi HughBurton,

Thank you for posting in the community! I understand your Nest Thermostat E display is unresponsive after you replaced the battery. Since you are seeing a yellow light even after checking the base pins, I recognize how concerning this must be. I appreciate your patience during the troubleshooting process and am happy to help you investigate a solution.

@jamesjhone7

Thank you for your quick participation and providing appropriate advice to investigate the reasons for this situation. I’ll follow the post from here to gather additional information for further investigation.

@HughBurton,,

Regarding your question about the replacement process, if the new thermostat is the same model, the steps are similar to plug-and-play; the difference is that you’ll have to remove the previous thermostat from your account to set up the new one.

To begin my investigation, please provide the following details:

  • Confirm your Nest Thermostat model; feel free to see the article: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • In which country is the Nest Thermostat installed?
  • Is your heating or cooling currently working?
  • Does the thermostat show an error code on the screen besides the yellow light?
  • What’s the app you’re using, Google Home or Nest app? (To provide steps to remove and set up your new thermostat, if applicable.)

I look for the answers as well as any clarifications and additional details.

Humberto

Hi @HughBurton,

Thank you for providing the information I requested! I’m sorry to hear your screen remains blank and that you’re experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi. To investigate further, could you please provide the following:

  • Please attach a photo of the thermostat display.

  • Describe the steps you took to replace the batteries.

Thank you in advance for your answer!
