Unable to change wifi network for Nest thermostat

RentThisSpace
Community Member

I am reconfiguring my network and I am unable to get my Nest Thermostat to connect to my new network.

The network has a long randomly generated password of 54 characters and I carefully entered it on the thermostat dial 4 times, checking each character as I went along.

My guess is that something is timing out before attempting to connect to the wifi, and I don't know that I am able to enter the long string much faster.

Is there any way to paste the password from an Android device or the web?

Are there other options?

And a related question. Is it possible to clear the password saved for a single wifi network without clearing them all?

Thanks

Why not change the password on the router for an easy one with less characters? You could connect to a hot spot if you have one, and again enter a better code?

Hi Ryan_G,

I am still in need of help. I am looking for a better way to enter a long password and for confirmation that there is a timeout issue.

Thanks

Hey RentThisSpace,

Thanks for your response.

At the moment, there's no option for us to copy and paste a WiFi password to your thermostat. We could set a new WiFi password less than 54 characters for you to enter before it is timeout.

We're sorry that this is causing frustration and we'll take this as feedback to improve our product and services.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I did see the replies, but they were not helpful, imo.

I know how to make my passwords shorter and therefore less secure, but that is not what I am trying to accomplish.

Especially since I have configured a bunch of non-Nest devices to use this new network and password, I would have to revisit all of those to dumb them down as well.

And no one responded to my related question about if it is possible to have the Nest thermostat forget a single network without wiping them all out.

Thanks for following up.

Thanks for the suggestions Frustratedddd, but I want to use my network with a secure password that is already configured on multiple other devices. This does not seem like an unreasonable thing, imo.
Also, using a hotspot is not a good option for me.
