I have a Nest thermostat which had a factory reset done to it by a friend to try and fix a lost connection to the home app on my phone. Is there a way for me to set up the thermostat using the home app without being in physical proximity to the thermostat (to use blue tooth)?

Hey KDJP,
Thanks for reaching out.
I'm afraid that in order to set up a Nest thermostat, you need to be in the same location as to where it is currently on. This is because one of the main requirements for the setup process is to have your mobile device connected to the same WiFi network where you want the thermostat to be connected to.

Hi Melba,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it's 800 miles away in Phoenix. Anyway, we did drive down and found that one of our two condensers isn't working and the Nest thermostat is telling the unit to cool which it can't... and the air handler is in the attic so basically when the fan is running which was all the time... it's heating the house (due to the heat built up in the attic). The other unit is working but trying to cool its side of the house while the other one is heating the other side. We found that we weren't able to turn off the Nest remotely either, The temperature in the house got up to 101 degrees. I'm not looking forward to my next electric bill. 😞

Hey there,
Oh no, that indeed doesn't sound nice but I'm glad that you're able to check them out although you had to have a long drive. As for not being able to turn off the Nest thermostat remotely, it is due to the fact that it is showing offline on your Nest app. Should you have the chance, please try the suggested troubleshooting guide here: https://bit.ly/2LLr1J0
