Unauthorized person did a factory re-set

DAZZZ

I have weekly rental properties and a guest decided to do a factory re-set.  How do I prevent this and how did he do that without the code?  I have used Eco when there are no guest, then turn off eco and have not figured out how to limit the temperature so the guest can change temperature within reason.  How do I take back the thermostat from a thousand miles away, set a lock to the controls, and set a temperature limit?

@DAZZZ

These are Google Nest's instructions for restarting and resetting a Nest thermostat. I don't know whether there's a way to prevent someone who has physical access to the thermostat from resetting it.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the help here, @MplsCustomer.

@DAZZZ, Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat has been reset. Unfortunately, you need to be there or someone you can trust to be physically at the location to setup the Nest Thermostat back in the Nest app. Then, I'd suggest enabling the Lock feature so you can create a code; this would help you setup a temperature range for anyone at the location and won't go further unless they know the PIN code.

Please take a look at this article and let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Client did a factory reset I tried to connect.. no luck. Removed thermostat from my app, client sent QRC … I scan but says won’t connect need to be close to thermostat… can I add product 200o miles away from thermostat?

Hi folks,

@DAZZZ, thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. You can only connect your Nest Thermostat to your app when you are in front of it, as you will need your phone and the thermostat to be connected to the same WiFi network. If you are not at the location right now, you can still setup the thermostat as soon as you reach it.

Let us know if you have any other questions. We're happy to help.

I appreciate your help, @MplsCustomer and Mark.

Best,

Zoe
