Upstairs vs. Downstairs Cooling Issue

Mantha81

I have a 2 story house with one thermostat upstairs and one downstairs. Lived in this house for 3 years, no problems controlling both seperately. Now, when I turn on my downstairs, the upstairs AC blows great and super cold, but my downstairs hardly blows. Help please!

@Mantha81 ,

Try this, using your downstairs Nest Thermostat, set the system mode to OFF. Then select Fan and turn it on for say 15 minutes. Go to the air handler and see and see if you can hear the blower fan running. If it is not running, you need a service call to determine why it is not.  If it is running, then check the filter make sure it is not clogged up with dirt.  When and AC is starved for air, the I door coil will ice up and when that happens, no air flows over the coil. Also,,if the blower fan is not running the same thing will happen.

Hi, thank you so much for the response. The fan is running but nothing is iced over. What do you suggest?

@Mantha81 , turn the system to COOL, and go outside to the outdoor unit make sure the Compressor and the fan are running.  Reach down to the copper pipes, the smaller is the liquid line and should be very hot, and the larger one on foam, should be pretty cool.
