I want my Nest thermostat to activate the "Home" schedule when it detects a presence, but I do NOT want it to go into "Away" (Eco) mode until I specifically authorize it.
We went out for about two hours today and when we returned the house was very hot. (98 degrees F outdoors today.) The thermostat had gone into Eco mode after only a short time!
I want to use Eco mode when I am away on vacation but NOT when the thermostat doesn't detect a presence! Or at least wait 8-10 hours before going into "Away" (Eco) mode.
Seems like a simple configuration any smart thermostat should be able to deal with.

It sounds like you want the Nest to run to the Home schedule all of the time, except when you explicitly (manually) tell it to go to Eco mode? You can do that by turning off Home/Away Assist. Then, on those occasions when you want Eco mode, you turn it on manually. The trick is that you have to remember to turn Eco mode off a few hours (depending on outdoor temperature) before you expect to arrive home. Needing to remember to do this is the main reason some people prefer Home/Away Assist. Either way has its advantages and disadvantages.
