When aux heat kicks in, constant clicking sound in furnace.

When my auxiliary heat kicks in, there is a constant clicking sound in my furnace. The only way to get the clicking to stop is to turn down the thermostat so that the auxiliary goes off. I'm thinking there may be something wrong in the wiring, maybe hooked up wrong but I'm not sure.  Recently I had to shut the power off to my heat pump until a new part came in to fix it and I had to use just my furnace and it worked fine with no clicking noises. Once my heat pump was fixed and turned back on, the same issue started again when auxiliary kicked in.

Does anyone know or have heard of this issue before and what needs to be done to fix it?

Thanks!

Hello MeSing2U,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I’m sorry to know that your thermostat is not working as you expected with the auxiliary heat. Don’t worry, I’m here to assist you.

To provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps, I would appreciate your assistance in answering the following questions:

  • What model of thermostat do you have? For your reference, check out this article to identify the model: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.

  • When did the trouble first occur?

  • Is it a new installation?

  • Could you attach a picture of your wiring system, the current configuration, and the previous one installed, if possible?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel
