The fix? Buy Butt Splices that are insulated and the pieces of 18 gauge wire in the lengths you need in the same color-coded colors you are extending. If it’s single wire or stranded wire, both will work. I suggests twisting stranded wire inside the Butt Splices before you crimp them together.
