Wiring Compatibility in two zone system

Hi. Recently moved into new two story house. There were two thermostats. Forced air system.  I successfully put in a Nest thermostat downstairs and worked great for winter with the heat. Now for summer the AC didn’t work upstairs. Replaced the battery in old thermostat and now works. Seems to have damper system as air only comes out of either downstairs or upstairs but not both. I want to put second Nest upstairs so I can control both up and downstairs. Checking compatibility. First pic is downstairs wiring that now has Nest. Second is upstairs with old thermostat. Thanks in advance.

Hello PeterPuck4,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to know more about this.

I appreciate you sharing us your old thermostat's photo. With your 2nd thermostat's wiring, we can't conclude yet its compatibility, but if you have a Zoned system with Damper controls, as long as it uses standard thermostat wires, it can be compatible. However, with its current wiring setup, it doesn't have the wire designated to your system. Please check your systems control panel to see how they are being installed. A picture would be a big help.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,
Mark

Hi Mark,

thank you for your help. I’m going to try and take a picture of the wiring at the unit this weekend and will report back.

Hi Peter,

Sounds good! If you verify its wiring setup, you can try configuring it with the Nest Thermostat you have, and I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

This took a weird left turn.  Turns out the second thermostat is an old wireless thermostat from Pro1 (https://pro1iaq.com/).  The one that I have is the T955W which was discontinued in 2012.
here are pics:

I’d love to replace with nest however there is only a 3 wire cable that is in the wall. I suspect that is why they went with the wireless. Is there a wireless add on for the Nest thermostat? If not I will reach out to our HVAC to see options.
Thanks!

Peter
