Zoned system not working on 1 level

We have a brand new house and have a "zoned" system. We replaced the main floor thermostat with a nest and now the upstairs vents do not blow air. Not hot or cold or even just the fan. Was told it may be the nest causing the problem. We can't even figure out how to control the different zones. Help! It's starting to get hot and upstairs is where all the bedrooms are, we will never make it through the summer without A/C.

Do you have a picture of the original thermostat's wiring? if yes, post it here

Can you also post a picture of your zone controller and how it is wired?

I don't have a picture of the original wiring, but I really don't think that's the problem. We uninstalled the nest and moved it upstairs and nothing changed. We can see that one of the dampers isn't opening, but yet when we open it manually, the air still doesn't blow upstairs. What is a zone controller, and where would I find it?

Ended up being 100% on the HVAC installer! Talk about angering!

Hiya Ilovemybaker,

Goodness, hopefully they were able to get that issue resolved! I can imagine I'd be pretty annoyed as well. Let us know if you still have any more questions, we'd be happy to help.

I’m having a similar problem - but I know it can’t be the HVAC guy. We have two zones/two nests. But it’s been working fine for several years.

all of a sudden today, the upstairs zone won’t work. I turn on Downstairs, and air pumps out the downstairs ducts. I turn on Upstairs (only) - air still only pours out of the Downstairs.

maybe something broke with the dampners? It’s worked fine for a long time; and we changed nothing! Any ideas?

Because that was what was happening with ours and it was the fact that the zones weren't wired correctly, I'd say yes it's probably the dampers. Good luck!

Hey there Bloc88,

Were you able to look into those dampers at all, or did you have any more questions?

Best regards,

Jeran

I finally had an AC guy get out here (today).... sounds as though it was a damper issue (not Nest-related).  Which is unfortunate, as replacement + time = $1,500.
