google nest no longer connects to wifi

One of my two Nest thermostats no longer connects to my home WIFI.  Using the Nest troubleshooter, I've performed a factory reset, deleted the device from Home.  Via new device installation, Home correctly connects with the thermostat, validates power, correctly credentials my home WIFI network, but always fails because the thermostat continues to not WIFI connect.  I've attempted the warranty review procedure, but it fails because it cannot "see" this thermostat (QR B44NMV).  Next steps?

Hi myNest2,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. I'm sorry for the delay. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. Are both of your thermostats the same kind? How far is the thermostat from the router?

Checking the settings on your Wi-Fi router or access point might help:

  1. Enable IPv6 or Multicast
    • If you want to connect a Nest thermostat, make sure that your router supports IPv6. When adding additional Nest devices, make sure your router supports multicast and that it’s on. Nest devices use multicast to communicate and set up connections with other Nest products.
  2. Turn on 2.4GHz
    • If you’re using a dual-band router with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, make sure they have different names. Nest thermostats can't connect to a 5 GHz network and may not be able to tell your networks apart.
  3. Parental controls or firewall security
    • High firewall security or parental controls can block communication with Nest servers. You can temporarily lower these settings while you connect your thermostat to the network, then change the settings back once it’s connected.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hi Jenelyn

After my 3rd attempt to install:  success! I've been able to re-program the device.  It is running normally now.

Both Nests are non-learning.  The troublesome one is 2 years older than the other, and out of warranty.  Both connect with my 2 eero mesh.

It is interesting to note that the newest Nest connects with its closest eero at 5 GHz.  When I disable 5 GHz on its eero, this Nest connects with the other eero at 2.4 GHz.  When I restore 5 GHz, it re-connects at 5 GHz.  Note that there are 4 other devices connected with this eero, 2 at 2.4 and 2 at 5.
