heat not consistently coming on; app says the heat is on

3rd Gen Nest Learning Thermostat

The problem started 4 or 5 days ago.

My heat does not seem to be coming on and staying on consistently.  Often the app will show the heat as being on (orange background) but the heat will not actually be on and the temperature will be below the set temperature.  I seem to be able to do things to trigger the heat coming on.  For example, if I manually switch to Away and then back to Home, the heat will come on.  Sometimes it will stay on enough to get to the desired temperature, but not always.

I also noticed that at some point in my trouble shooting, the target temperature changed from being a range to a single number.  I'm honestly not sure what I did to cause this.
