how much current can the nest handle?

how much current can the nest handle?

and is there a way to not have the fan in cooling mode?

exotic system at my place.

i have window air con units and have made a 24 vac relay control panel to start and stop the air window units.

this way i can use a standard thermostat to control the air units.

the issue is now with the new nest unit it will not let me select cool only with out the fan control. and i am getting relay chatter as the control ckt in the next is too low of current to switch in the 2 relays.

this system works ok when i use a digital round.

i was looking forward to the ipad control for summer cooling..

so far it is a bust.

Hi iowagold,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

The Nest thermostat is compatible with most 24V systems and we don't have a specific current measurement.

The fan settings can be managed if you have a dedicated G wire connected to your thermostat. Check out this link for more information on how to control your fan with your Nest thermostat.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi iowagold,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here in the community.

We don't have any information to share about the exact current that the Nest thermostat can handle but you can check out this link for more information on how to control your fan using your Nest thermostat.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Ryan

yea but there is not a soft switch in the setup to turn off the fan during cooling mode.

these days with all the new air con units like mini splits, and base board convection heating with 24 volt control. and hydronic.

we need to be able to have the fan to turn off or run separate from the call for cool like it does for the call for heat.

well a "C" wire transformer did the trick!

click here for the long wire C wire transformer on amazon for 18.00 shipped

soldered on to the R wire and connected the other transformer wire to the C

i did see a mention you have to use the C wire transformer to get 200 ma worth of switching..

the way it sits with the onboard battery it is only maybe 30ma and is too low to fire real relays to a good solid latch state.

so now we are down to the fan control in cooling mode...

we need an soft switch to turn off the fan during cooling for exotic cooling systems.

and make it still where we can maybe run the fan only first to help with the air flow before kicking in the compressor.

make this as an advanced feature pack like a different software flash?

or just place it in a pro settings screen for the advanced HVAC guys out there.

still cannot turn the furnace fan off when in the cool mode.

this is costing me BIG bucks to run the furnace fan!

we need a software update to add a soft switch for using the thermostat with a stand alone air conditioner.

not a happy camper when i got the $500 dollar bill for last months electric!

get this fixed asap!
