Mine had a 10 degree split and was getting worse. I decided to replace it with another brand since there is no support what so ever from nest or Google for this matter. They offered to send me someone else's broken warranty replacement (refurbished) for a $250 fee. I chose to remove their poorly made product from my home. After contacting my furnace installer, I found out these failures are extremely common with the Nest thermostats.

Hello there,

I'm sorry to hear you're both having issues with your thermostats that show inaccurate temperature readings.

Thanks for sharing and I'm sorry for the trouble it caused you, @DTMHoban. If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

@mlkraw, I'd love to know more about this. To isolate:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Where did you install it? (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Do you have other active thermostats? Do they show the same readings?
  • Is your thermostat installed near a heat source? (Air vents that direct warm air, appliances, electrical outlets, and other potential heat sources)

Also, going over these steps might help:

  1. Turn on the sunblock.
    1. Settings > Nest Sense > Sunblock.
  2. Check your thermostat's "Signal strength value."
    1. Settings > Technical Info > Network.
  3. Cover the wall with a duct seal compound to close the penetration on the wall and serve as an insulator.
  4. Disable the thermostat from your W-Fi network within 24 hours.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

I've been through all of the troubleshooting steps with your so call "Nest Tech support" which I have to say, were no help at all. The only way it will turn the furnace on is by removing it from the wall, which is not in sunlight and is in the center of the house on a wall and, reinstalling it onto the wall. It does not matter where I have the temperature set, it still fails to work correctly. This is on top of the fact that the temperature indicated on the thermostat is currently reading 11 degrees higher than the actual room temperature. After speaking with my furnace installer, they have informed me of the very poor quality of the Nest products and have replaced it with a brand that actually works.
