my Honeywell pro thermostat: Y,G,C,O/B,AUX(W2),R

nest Thermostat:Y,C,W,G,R,*OB

Question is, where do I put the W2 from old thermostat to nest thermostat ?

Put it in the W slot

During setup you tell Nest it is a Heat Pump with W as Aux heat.

Do you know if you have electric heat coils that kick on in very cold weather when the heat pump cannot keep up?

Or do you have gas heat that kicks on?

If it is electric coils you then have to set up your heat pump balance settings to choose how the electric coils are activated to work with the heat pump.

Thanks for the reply.  I will put the '*w2' into' w' of the nest.. And yes, I have a heat pump, with with emergency heat.   I also read the article about the heat pump balance. Thanks again

installed a learning thermostat , seems to work . the wife want me to install a  temperature sensor . where should i install it

The Nest has its own sensor inside. You only need remote sensors if other areas of the house are not comfortable and you want that other room not near the Nest to be in control of the temperature.

So when you have other sensors you have to set up a schedule of when the Nest sensor is ignored and the sensor will take precedence for the target temp you want.

Keep in mind if you have rooms that are colder than the room where the Nest is and you want the sensor to be lets say 72 then heat will run until sensor reaches 72 but the room with Nest will most likely overshoot and be hotter than 72.
