I have the following wires:

These are mentioned as conventional:

C

R

The rest have letters on both side of connection. One side is mentioned as conventional. So I will mention both

W      O/B

Y       Y

G      G

Please see attached for the pic.

Is my thermostat compatible with Nest?

Yes, your thermostat is compatible with any of the Nest thermostats.

The first thing to do is determine if you have a conventional or a heat pump. You can do this by looking at the wiring in the furnace/air handler and seeing where the blue wire is connected. If it's connected to a W terminal, you have a conventional system. You have a heat pump system if it's connected to an O, B, or O/B terminal.

Wire the conventional system like this.

Black - C to C

Red - R to Rc or R (jumper to Rc not needed)

Green - G to G

White - Y to Y1 or Y

Blue - W to W1 or W

The "or" is for the Google Nest Thermsotat wiring

Wire the heat pump system like this.

Black - C to C

Red - R to Rc or R (jumper to Rc not needed)

Green - G to G

White - Y to Y1 or Y

Blue - O/B to OB or */OB

The "or" is for the Google Nest Thermsotat wiring

Hi @Patrick_Caezza

Thanks for replying. I am a total noob at this don't know much about this stuff.

It seems I have a heat pump as its blowing hot air out the vents when set to a high temp.

The current HVAC also works as an air conditioner when set the mode to A/C in my current thermostat.

I am still a bit confused about the O/ B wire.

The Nest base plate has the following labels: Y, C, W, G, R, *OB

So the blue wire in my current thermostat is connected to a port which has the 'W' label on the left and 'O/B' on the right.

Since I have a heat pump, the blue wire will go into the '*OB' port in the Nest base plate? Just want to confirm this.

Correct, Install the blue wire into the *OB terminal on the Nest
