I dont know which generation i have all I know is that I can not control my Tstat from my phone. My partner moved to Paris so I have to text him to change the temp to our house in NJ... its nuts and I ned to be able to control the temp in my own home without routing a request through a 6 hour time difference.

Did your partner ever invite you to join their Google Nest "home/structure" (the one in which your thermostat is installed)?

Perhaps you should consider contacting Support to try to determine what your options are:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.
