question on install for nest thermostat i just picked up

hello 

i have baseboard heating using a oil burner.  i just picked up a nest thermostat to update my old nasty thermostat.  i noticed that when i took old thermostat off wall,the wires are not small they look like regular red and black wires that you would hook up a switch to. so my question is this thermostat compatible with my wiring? do i need to install a drop down transformer or can i use the same wires?

Thank you for letting me know your concerns, regarding the information that you have provided me, unfortunately this thermostat isn't compatible with your current wiring system. Here there is more information about how to identify a thermostat wire.
